This product is only obtained from bats that feed on fruit and insects and – contrary to what you might think – it is virtually odourless. It is one of the best fertilisers for crops because it is very rich in nutrients, has a fast action and can be introduced into the soil before sowing or during plant growth.
Bat-guano enriches the soil, promotes seedling growth, and improves soil drainage and texture. It is a fertiliser that promotes the development of healthy, green and lush plants. It can be used as a natural fungicide and prevents the proliferation of nematodes, dangerous soil parasites that compromise plant development.

Why use bat guano to fertilise plants?
Bat guano is a highly nutritious and highly concentrated fertiliser. As a result, you can use it in smaller quantities than other fertilisers and obtain a healthy crop. Besides, this natural fertiliser is a fungicide and considerably improves the composition of the soil, contributing to its regeneration.

Bat-guano’s composition
As we anticipated, bat guano is rich in nutrients that promote plant growth and resistance. Specifically, this natural fertiliser contains :
- mineral salts, including calcium,
- ammonium oxalate,
- ammonium urate,
- natural phosphates,
- NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium), essential for plant health.
Depending on the diet of the bats that produce it, different concentrations of NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium) can be found in guano, although the most common is 10-3-1. It means that guano usually contains :
- 10% nitrogen (N)
- 3% phosphorus (P)
- 1% potassium (K)
It is precisely the high concentration of nitrogen that promotes rapid growth and the development of plants with a beautiful bright green colour. Phosphorus, on the other hand, encourages root growth and flowering, while potassium promotes the overall health of the plant.
Some types of guano, on the other hand, have higher amounts of phosphorus (10%) and therefore an NPK concentration of 3-10-1. Insectivorous bats are thought to tend to produce high percentages of nitrogen. Meanwhile, frugivores (which feed on fruit and some other vegetables) have guano with a high phosphorus content.

How to use bat guano to fertilise your plantation?
You can work the bat guano, fresh or dried, directly with the soil or make a tea (yes) and add it to the water of the plants. Usually, suitable percentages for the soil are indicated in the packaging. It is generally done according to the type of product and the concentration of nutrients.
For example, for powdered fossilised guano with a high phosphorus content, the methods of use are as follows:
- For intensive agriculture, floriculture and vegetable gardens, we recommend 30 to 100 gr per square metre of land to be combined with irrigation water (possibly every 2 or 3 months and in mid-season),
- Pot culture: 20 gr of guano powder in 1 litre of water every 2 or 3 months,
- Potted shrubs: for 30-litre pots, you need 100 gr of guano. Mix it with the soil or to spread on the ground around the stem,
- Lawn: you can add guano to the soil before sowing or dilute it in water. Usually, 1 kg of fertiliser is used for 10 square metres of land.
Attention: the percentages may vary depending on the nutrient concentration and the type of guano (fresh or dry).*
